Yes, every yoga teacher should know the Yoga Sutras, but being aware of the symbiotic relationships within our bodies is key to empowering your students. On this 24-day retreat, practitioners can plunge into experiential anatomy, physiology, somatic education, movement science and more in the middle of the Cloud Forest in Veracruz. You’ll sync to nature’s clock and learn about the principles of permaculture and how to incorporate them into daily life.  You can also sample some of the best coffee in Mexico at a nearby town.

Soma Yoga and Movement Educator Teacher Training provide a solid foundation to teach Yoga following principles of somatic education, body warm-ups, joint mobility, resistance training to educate on human movement and build the capacity for doing more in life with confidence and ease. Yoga teachers are educated in a blend of experiential anatomy, physiology, somatic education and movement science with the traditional practice of yoga.

What is Soma Yoga?


Soma Yoga is not another style of yoga, is a way of relating to the body to become more aware, to observe and embody the symbiotic relationships that we hold inside and outside ourselves. 

Rancho Kiekari offers the tools and resources that will support you to have a solid foundation to teach in a way that makes sense to you as a yoga and movement educator and for your students, we have detoured from an education that imposes postures, sequences to bodies and moves forward into an approach that brings critical thinking, inquiry, curiosity, exploration in a well and safe guided class. You will experience and learn tools to facilitate either Hatha Yoga or Flow classes, depending on your heartfelt of what you are inclined to share. 

You will for sure come out of our training well resourced to feel confident and true to yourself to share your wisdom.

This training is not aligned based, meaning that we don't focus on bringing people into postures but instead allowing the bodies to find their own sense of alignment where it feels more space, control and stability from the inside out and not from the outside in (trying to fit and fix the body into an image of how a posture should look like). 

You will be empowered to guide your students to come into this place of curiosity and exploration in their own bodies, providing knowledge and education about the body and the multiples way of relationships that it holds within its systems.

Instituto KiekariTerra A.C is an educational retreat centre for sustainable and resilient communities. It is located in the middle of the Cloud Forest in the town of Xico, Veracruz. The centre is located among mountains and rivers. Instituto KiekariTerra is an off the grid educational centre, so the exposure to electromagnetic waves is minimal and it is the perfect site for a digital detox.

The venue
The accommodation will be in a tent only for you, including a pad, sheets, and a pillow (KiekariTerra will provide all these for you). You will sleep with the sound of the river and wake up with the sound of the birds. There is no electricity so it is perfect to reconnect with your circadian rhythms.

The weather at KiekariTerra is very changeable. The training taking place in October/November/February will experience more cold days during the mornings and evenings, so if you are sensitive to cold, make sure you bring warm clothes. In KiekariTerra they will provide blankets but if this is not enough for you, you can also book the training in warmer months like March, April and May.

There are three cats living in the house. Therefore, if you are allergic to cats this is not the best training for you. They also have two dogs that will be around while you are here, they are very welcoming and calm dogs some nights they bark, some nights they don’t, depending on their mood. If you have any type of situation with dogs, this is not the best training for you. There is also a rooster that sings early in the mornings around 5:30 - 6:00 a.m. If you are a light light sleeper maybe you would like to consider, this is the ranch life, you are very welcome to our land if this resonates as a good learning experience for you.

All of the students will get some tasks to do as Karma Yoga during the training, this could be keeping clean, and tidying the shala, keeping the communal table clean, feeding the chickens, checking the sawdust in the dry toilets, helping set the dinner table. 

Food
You will enjoy 3 delicious homemade meals a day. The food is vegan/vegetarian. On your day off (Saturdays), only breakfast will be served.

If you are a coffee lover, the retreat centre is close to the best coffee town in Mexico, where you can find organic coffee during the free day.

In the retreat, they will provide fruit for in-between meals. If you need to bring some snacks of your preference you are welcome to do so, just keep in mind not to bring garbage (plastic bags, metallic cans, etc). 

 If you have special dietary requirements it's a good idea to communicate them to the organiser when making a reservation

Certifications
Students who complete their training are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®).

Program
You will learn the whys and hows about yoga postures and how to make them functional for daily life activities or other movement practices. This foundation will serve as a powerful base from which to teach and guide your students through a practice that educates, inspires, and heals. 

This is trauma-informed yoga training, so you will be guided to learn the principles of neuroscience, trauma, and how to lead a yoga and movement trauma-informed class. 

We will be learning about social justice from an embodied lens, giving an introduction to anti-oppression work beginning with your own self and body. 

This yoga training seeks to train and inspire teachers to live yoga from the sacred, through deep experience, knowledge and inquiring, to live, and experience the innate connections that everyone has with the other beings, and the self-healing capacity of the Earth.

During the training, you will be immersed in a place where you are working with nature conservation projects and permaculture and you will have the opportunity to learn about the principles of permaculture and how you can bring them into practice in daily life and yoga. You will be immersed in a family and community environment. You will be living with the laws of nature, in nature's rhythm to remember your organic and natural internal clock (you are off the grid, no artificial light, and electromagnetic waves, so isthe perfect place for a digital detox and to reconnect with your internal clock).

General objectives
  • To know, explore, and apply the fundamentals of experiential anatomy and human movement principles in a fun and comfortable way in your own being in order to guide authentic, conscious, and safe classes.
  • To facilitate accessible and creative classes, respecting the bio-individuality of each being and learning to think outside the box of yoga.
  • To reconnect to your felt sense (to sense from within) and empower the student to recognize his / her own body knowledge and be able to take his / her own decisions about what works and what does not for his / her body. 
  • Connect with the tools you need at this time for the transition to a state of radical well-being.
  • Understand and live the interdependence with nature that surrounds you and inhabit the earth from the sacred.
  • Live a transformative, deep, and fun experience.

Content
  • Experiential anatomy and Somatic Education 
  • General Baseline of alignment in Standing / Seated/ Handbalancing/ Spinal Rotation, Backbends, Balancing movements and body expressions.
  • Assisting without touch (breath /verbal cues/ demo/ props/ self direct assists)
  • Yoga philosophy (introduction to yoga history/ eight limbs of yoga) 
  •  Breath and basic pranayama techniques 
  • Energy Anatomy (chakras, nadis, vayus, koshas) 
  • Somatic Visualizations 
  • Gut health (the wisdom of your microbiome for physical and mental health) 
  • Observation and practise teaching (you get to teach one hour class with a partner and one solo hour class and also small groups teachings while in the process of learning to create a class) 
  • Intro to Permaculture (practice and theory)
  • Trauma-informed yoga
  • Embodying social justice
