Practicing yoga in a class environment has great advantages, but having your own yoga practice which you can do wherever and wherever you want, and based on which you can build your strength and flexibility has even more advantages. Join this retreat if you want to know more about yoga, alignment of postures, and sequencing, and if you want to go back home being able to practice as often as you want and to build your practice of Hatha and Vinyasa yoga at your own pace.

The venue
During this retreat, you will be staying at one of Shanti Toya Ashram's villas and suites. Shanti Toya offers an authentic taste of Bali, nestled in the quiet hillside of a lush jungle ravine and surrounded by the rice paddy farmlands of Penarungan village. It is located approximately 15 minutes southwest of Ubud, a city centre highly regarded and sought after by yogis worldwide as the modern hub of the yoga community.

The property itself is the home of a peaceful gurgling river and an abundant holy spring water source. In addition to the four new villas (each with guest rooms and bathrooms) and two private villas, there is also a beautiful second story thatch-roof bamboo yoga shala, communal open-air dining and lecture hall, reception, store, spring water-fed swimming pool, bale, and an organic vegetable garden.

There are plenty of nature walking opportunities just outside the ashram, through the quaint village and beautiful rice paddies. Shanti Toya Ashram is set in an intimate setting, perfect for smaller retreats of up to 22 guests, which allows a richer experience, more personalized attention, and authentic friendships to form between retreat-goers.

Ashrams usually represent a return to a simpler way of living, which is very different to a hotel. Generally, there is a more communal atmosphere and often an expectation that guests will pitch in with whatever needs doing.

You will enjoy three daily vegan, freshly prepared, sattvic meals and afternoon tea. Unlimited herbal water is available.

Program

During the retreat, in addition to the morning and afternoon yoga class, you will have three workshops, two hours each during which the teacher will explain the structure of the sequence, give you options according to your advancement in yoga, and answer any of your questions.

Optional activities
During your visit, you can experience traditional Balinese activities, such as ritual offering making, traditional cooking, gambelan, and dancing classes. Shanti Toya Ashram is strategically close to many authentic Balinese venues such as Mengwi Royal Temple, Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest, as well as beautiful terraced rice fields and sacred temples. 

You can explore by trekking, cycling, or by local shuttle. There are plenty of nature walking opportunities just outside Shanti Toya Ashram, through the quaint village and beautiful rice paddies.

I
Ary was born into a Balinese healers family and practiced yoga from a young age with his yogi sister, Pradnya, and father. He graduated from the 200-hour TTC at the School of Sacred Arts in Ubud in 2012. Since then, he's been teaching every day. Since 2013, Ary has been studying yoga with Jani Jaatinen (Mahayogi Gokulacandra Das). Ary teaches Gokul Hatha (asana, pranayama, meditation) and Gokul Vinyasa yoga. His traditional approach to yoga helps people understand its roots and value. He encourages people to establish their own practice by giving them appropriate tools, wisdom, and skills.
Madhuri Rasika Devi Dasi (Pradnya)
Madhuri
Pradnya is an E-RYT 500 at Yoga Alliance. Has 100++ certification with Sivananda Ashram, Rishikesh India & Yin yoga instructor certification (Bali Yoga Teacher). Since 2012, Pradnya is studying Bhuddhi Yoga & Bhakti Yoga with Jani Jaatinen a.k.a. Mahayogi Gokulacandra Das. Pradnya is teaching Gokul Hatha and Gokul Vinyasa (Bahiranga and Antaranga Shadana). During all these years of teaching, she had many opportunities to deepen her experiences as a professional yoga teacher by traveling all around the world. Together with Ary & Kalina, she’s creating Gokul Yoga Bali school.
