Yin is in! Yin yoga is getting a lot of attention these days, probably because our “yang” dominated modern lifestyles, call for more balance. Daily stress impacts our body, mind and soul. Though we long to be at ease and enjoy every moment of life, we tend to `keep going, because we don’t know how else to `keep up.’

The Yin yoga therapy practice is designed to create space for just that, to rejuvenate the body, clear the mind, open up the heart and allow energetic healing to take place. So welcome to the Yin side; an attempt to bring balance and healing to our modern life.

Yin yoga therapy teacher training, in a nutshell, are all about how to:
  • maintain and expand flexibility and mobility, rejuvenate the body
  • practice mindfulness in daily life, create peace in our mind
  • heal through the Daoist wisdom of the meridian chi flow in our bodies, harmonise body, mind and soul.

Yin yoga creates an opportunity to release physical and emotional tension, free stagnant or blocked energy and cultivate a peaceful quality of mind. We’ll put you on the path to acquiring the knowledge, the practical experience and confidence to earn the certificate and share this wisdom.

Arugam Bay is a lovely moon-shaped curl of soft sand and is known as one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka. It is one of those areas in the world you have to visit at least once in a lifetime. Pristine sandy beach, stunning natural beauty and with a population of just a few hundred, everything is dotted along a single road that parallels the coast. 

Home to a famed point break that many regards as the best surf spot in the country, Arugam Bay is considered one of the top 10 surf points in the world. With the world-famous Yala National Park as its neighbour, Arugam Bay is also lucky to be surrounded by loads of wildlife like monkeys, elephants, and crocodiles. The bay is simply an amazing place to be.

The venue
Bay Vista welcomes you to the East coast of the tropical island of Sri Lanka with sunny warmth and promises you lasting experiences. Ensconced amidst rustling coconut palms, located in the heart of the small coastal village Arugam Bay, our stunning beachfront venue Bay Vista is just a stroll away from one of the world’s top ten surfing spots. 

Each day at Bay Vista lures you towards different adventures; from cresting the most challenging waves to strolls on the beach at sunrise and breathtaking scenery, from experiencing local cuisine and beach life in Arugam Bay to connecting to the surrounding abundant nature. Bay Vista invites you to discover the way of life of the locals and lose yourself in the rustic charm that surrounds Arugam Bay.

The rooftop that opens to the cobalt sky is the ideal spot for our yoga practice. Breathtaking ocean views, a sun-rise witnessed here will, undoubtedly, leave an everlasting impression. The rooftop is also a nice place to chill, watch the action on the beach and check out the healthy bar whenever you get the munchies.

After a day of yoga and exploring, you’ll enjoy relaxing in comfortable rooms. Choose a double, triple or family room, all with a sea view on one side and a land view on the other. The rooms come complete with all amenities such as AC, hot water, a ceiling fan and a private balcony.

Dive deep into all essential aspects of practising and teaching Yin yoga and learn about the Daoist elements and meridians this contemplative method integrates. The philosophical and energetic aspects of Yin Yoga can be a gateway to deep healing and offer resources of inspiration for your practice and your teaching.

Yin yoga is simple, but not easy. Sometimes being still is the hardest of all asana. The stillness of the floor-based, long-held static stretches (with relaxed muscles) creates the space to practise mindfulness and cultivate awareness. We embrace our own physical limitations rather than trying to fight against them and work with the body just as it is, and that in and of itself is an amazing thing. We are practising acceptance, surrendering to gravity, and connecting our body to a zen state of mind.

While we are expanding our flexibility and rejuvenating our joints, we reveal and release deep layers of tension held within your fascia. The therapeutic healing wisdom of the Daoist philosophy provides insight and guidance to get in touch with our body, mind, and soul. We get the unique opportunity to release emotional tension, free stagnant or blocked energy and cultivate a peaceful quality of mind.

The teachings include the foundations and principles of Yin, the physical benefits of the practice, and the meditative and therapeutic energetic effects from a Daoist / Oriental medicine perspective.

Certification
With successful completion of the training, students will receive a Yoga Alliance affiliated Yoga Teacher Training Certificate from The Body-Mind-Soul Centre (registered school with Yoga Alliance) and a Yin Yoga Therapy Training Diploma as a component of Alexandra Denkinger M.D.(ACU) physical therapy practice, licensed and registered as Doctor of Medicine in Acupuncture M.D.(ACU) by the Indian Board of Alternative Medicine, affiliated with Yoga Alliance as a registered yoga teacher (RYT 500) and owner of The Body-Mind-Soul Centre (RYS 200).

The peacefulness of the long-held static stretches in Yin Yoga allows space for awareness, with an opportunity to reveal and release deep layers of tension held within our connective tissue. The healing wisdom of the Daoist philosophy and the meridians provides insight and guidance towards a healthy life. 

By listening to our body closely we understand the transformative possibilities of being present with sensation, to embody mindfulness principles on a physical level. From this point we let the body guide the mind to the ultimate experience of peace, where we cultivate an attitude of loving-kindness towards ourselves. And from this perch of abundance, we are able to offer loving-kindness to the rest of the world. 

When you awaken and align your body’s underlying energy, you activate your innate process of healing and transformation. We will demystify how energy affects everything you do and feel—and show you how to work with your body and your mind. 

We practice sequences according to physical or emotional issues where the alternative medicine aspect of Daoism offers the opportunity for deep healing and profound transformation. You will learn simple principles, tools, and practices that balance your subtle body—which is how physical, emotional and spiritual healing begins—so you can build vitality, unravel energetic blockages, and boost your immunity.

Our Philosophy
We see teaching yoga as an art fuelled by authenticity and creativity. A student's personal practice and the understanding that follows spark the inner teacher and sharing with others will come naturally and spontaneously.

In a Taoist / Zen way, we emphasize the value of breath, meditation and intuition rather than ritual worship or rigorous following of old scriptures and perfect alignments. It matters how it feels much more than how it is supposed to look.

We acknowledge that every student and teacher has his or her own unique presence, energy, and teaching style. The Body-Mind-Soul Centre provides an ideal environment for learning and a practice process, where yoga teacher training courses are presented and practised in depth.

Alexandra
Alexandra Denkinger is an acupuncture therapist (M.D.Acu), yoga teacher (RYT500), Yin yoga expert, and founder of The Body-Mind-Soul Centre. She likes to see herself Body-Mind-Soul Bio-Hacker, an "urban shaman", dedicated to helping people empower themselves to live the most authentic, healthy life possible. As an all-time seeker on a soul-searching journey, she came across many different yoga styles and healing systems. In her Yin yoga teachings, she integrates the ancient wisdom of acupuncture meridians and chi flow in meditative yoga practice.
