Tenerife Sustainable Tourism Yoga Retreat 2022
This retreat is unique in that it combines sustainable tourism with yoga. It is set among a 70-year-old banana plantation on the largest of the Spanish Canary Islands, Tenerife. The retreat aims to bring the people of the nearby town of Alcala a means to benefit from the thriving tourism industry, while at the same time providing five days of barefoot luxury – a combination of yoga, meditation, personal enlightenment, beautiful accommodation, and nutritious meals.
The venue is in the heart of an agricultural farm with sweeping views across the breathtaking plantations of banana and the Atlantic Ocean on the island of La Gomera, La Palma and El Teide. There are six Spanish-style farmhouses that were originally built for farm workers – now transformed into beautiful self-catering accommodation for guests to enjoy complete comfort and tranquillity. All feature kitchen facilities, spacious rooms with quality linen, towels and full Wi-Fi connectivity. Accents of Bohemian, rustic, and modern interior finishes make each of these six farmhouses alive with individual characteristics, comfort being key. Step out onto a private patio and enjoy the spectacular sunsets the southern part of Tenerife offers.

The five-day retreat offers yoga and meditation sessions twice daily in a Thai-inspired yoga shala. The retreat caters for absolute beginners to more experienced yogis. There are two separate classes for the various levels, so you can choose which you are more comfortable joining. Classes are 90 minutes, morning, and evening, and include meditation. Both classes are not mandatory and you can attend one or both. In between your yoga practice there are three meals prepared by an experienced private chef and can be suited to accommodate any dietary requirements. The use of local produce is key to the quality and freshness of the meals prepared daily. During the day you can wander to the beach to swim, snorkel and sunbathe at your leisure, and connect with the other guests. A fascinating guided tour of the 70-year-old banana plantation is included in the itinerary.
