Program

The Doron Yoga Teacher Training Program is a life-changing, growth, and transformational opportunity. Doron Yoga is a holistic approach to yoga, and more broadly, to life - blending meditation, pranayama, asana, food, and nutrition, Ayurveda, mind training, philosophy, energy work, and Bhakti for a healthy, well-balanced life. When you grow as an individual, learn about yourself, deepen your practice, and become an example for others, you naturally develop into a great teacher and a better person.

If you want to understand the greater meaning of yoga, not just the asana aspect; understand the yoga lifestyle and learn how to integrate it into your life; explore more elements from other traditions like energy channels, Sanskrit terms, and Yin Yoga, so you have a really good and balanced practice; learn the correct alignment of poses so you improve your practice, keep it sustainable, and know how to teach it to others; understand how to do and teach the more challenging poses; be a teacher that knows how to give awesome hands-on adjustments, which words to use, and how to demonstrate; study with a group of like-minded yogis, and belong to a yoga family that cares, during the training and afterwards, you are looking at the right program. This will be an experience of a lifetime!

After completing the training you will be eligible for the Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher credential at the 200-hour level (RYT-200)

Optional activities
Lake Atitlan offers a plethora of different activities, including but not limited to swimming, kayaking, and hiking. A day trip can be taken by boat or tuk-tuk to the nearby villages for sightseeing and shopping, which also has a dock where local lanchas (boat taxis) stop every 20 to 40 minutes to take you to explore other towns around the lake.

San Marcos is the closest town over and can be reached by boat, tuk-tuk or walking. There, you can relax in one of the many cafes and restaurants or partake in an array of healing offerings, including shamanism, cacao ceremonies, Reiki, and much more. Among others, San Pedro, a short ride to the other side of the lake, has more of a vibrant backpacker’s vibe and is a little less expensive. San Juan offers more handmade stores, beautiful murals, co-ops, and a small village feel.

The rooms at the Doron Yoga and Zen Center (DYZC) in Tzununa are simple but beautiful, rustic, yet charming. Located up the hill from Lake Atitlan, coffee, banana, and other trees and lush vegetation abound on the DYZC’s grounds. All DYZC accommodations are brand new and built for comfort and safety while being ecological. The base for all rooms is a stone wall made of stones from the land held strongly together with concrete.

The other walls are from wood, or at times bricks to have better sound insulation between rooms. The showers have hot water and there are Western toilets (eco treatment). The water source is from a spring supplied by the municipality and from river water that runs through the property. DYZC will give you a local experience, using local fabrics, building with natural materials, eco-friendly materials, and following permaculture principles.

However, DYZC made sure you will feel at home and hope you will love this unique experience as much as Doron Yoga loves creating it. There are two types of accommodation. Casa Feliz is equipped with a shared bathroom and Casa Lotus with a private bathroom. Please note there are two cute cats and a lovely puppy in the DYZC centre. Food

Three vegetarian meals are served each day. The daily offerings have an international inspiration, mixing traditional Guatemalan fare with Doron’s Mediterranean touch. Meals are made from fresh produce; to the greatest extent possible, food is organic and locally sourced, sometimes from its own garden. Gluten-free and vegan diets can be accommodated upon request.

Each meal is substantial, varied, and nourishing to energize you through your retreat journey.

The menu at the Doron Yoga & Zen Center is designed with the guidance of founder and director, Doron Hanoch, who is also a professionally trained chef and certified nutrition consultant.

Some examples of the offerings include raw, cooked, and fermented foods, healthy sauces and condiments, homemade jams and peanut butter, fresh homemade granola, baked sourdough bread, fresh tortillas, and pizza cooked in either the clay or wood-burning ovens.

Snacks are available throughout the day.

Try the chocolate chip banana muffins, vegan superfood-rich bliss balls (made with local Maya raw cacao), dragon fruit smoothies, vegan black bean brownies, or our homemade kombucha!

The goal is simple: Let mother nature’s cuisine shine with all the exciting tastes, shapes, vibrant colours, and pure flavours. The food Doron Yoga serves is prepared with love, passion, and attention to detail.

If you have special dietary requirements it's a good idea to communicate them to the organiser when making a reservation

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at La Aurora International Airport (GUA). From there, it's easiest to take a shuttle to the town of Panajachel, located on Lake Atitlan. Doron yoga can arrange a private or shared shuttle for you. If you'd like to take a shared shuttle, please plan to arrive at the airport before noon, as the last shared shuttles leave the city at 2 p.m.

From Panajachel, you can take the boat (lancha) in the direction of San Marcos to Tzununa, the small village where they are located. It is the stop before San Marcos. The last boat from Panajachel is at 7 p.m. Though there are also private boats available after this time, they would recommend arriving in time for the public boats if possible.

In Tzununa, take a tuk-tuk from the dock to Doron Yoga. There will be tuk-tuk drivers waiting at the dock, and all tuk-tuk drivers in Tzununa know where they are located.
