mountain and
sea.

Your guide to yoga retreats in Greece
Is there anything more idyllic than sun salutations, serene meditation sessions and wholesome Greek food on a quiet beach?
Whether visiting on a
day trip or over the
weekend, a Greek yoga retreat is a great way to deepen and enrich your practice.
If it's your first time exploring the islands, here are a few travel tips to keep in mind.
Where to go in Greece
From the picturesque islands of the Aegean Sea to the historical sites of Athens, Greece really does have it all.
Yogis can go island hopping, meditate in the mountains or uncover ancient relics and spirituality on the mainland.
However you decide to explore this dreamy yoga destination, we highly recommend that you do so at one of these top locations.
South Aegean
The
South Aegean is a paradise for yogis and nature-lovers alike.
Some of the most popular islands in this region include Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes and Kos, with each offering
unique outdoor adventures and delicious Greek fare.
If you love sunset meditation sessions, sea swims, long nature walks and transformative yoga practices, then the South Aegean should be top of your list.
Crete
As the largest Greek island,
Crete is home to some of the best yoga retreats the country has to offer.
Sandy beaches, crystal blue water and stunning sunsets make the perfect backdrop for morning yoga practice on a
Restorative yoga weekend away.
Yogis can also uncover ancient Greek ruins and indulge in the country’s locally grown produce with the freshest olives, grapes, and flavourful fruits and vegetables.
Corfu, Zakynthos, Kefalonia, and Lefkada are popular destinations for a
luxury yoga holiday while Ithaca, Paxi and Kythira are ideal for those who want to escape the crowds and enjoy a slower pace of life.
Here, you can lap down a hearty breakfast before starting your yoga class on one of the nearby beaches with the sound of the waves to guide your meditation.
When to visit Greece
No matter what time of the year you visit, you'll find this region teeming with tourists and yoga enthusiasts who want to immerse themselves in Greek island life.
If you're looking for a quiet getaway without the buzzing crowds, then
spring is the best time to visit.
During the month of April through to June, the days are pleasant and balmy and yogis can enjoy daily yoga sessions on the beach or the outside deck without a cloud in sight.
When
summer arrives in July, the tourist season starts to pick up so expect queues at major attractions like the Acropolis and Delphi.
Although heaving with tourists and holidaymakers, summer is a spectacular time to visit Greece. With temperatures soaring to 35 °C, you can practise yoga with daily ocean dips,
surf lessons and
nature hikes.
Towards the end of summer in August, the weather and crowds start to cool down and it's the perfect opportunity to soak up the last of the sun and slow down on a remote island.
What to do in Greece
While a
luxury yoga retreat might tick all your boxes, there are plenty of remarkable attractions and adventures in Greece waiting to be discovered.
- Explore ancient Greek temples at the Acropolis
- Summit the renowned Mount Olympus
- Roam the scenic streets of Santorini
- Wander the Samaria Gorge in Crete
- Island hop the Dodecanese
- Marvel at the otherworldly rock pinnacles of Meteora
How to get around in Greece
Getting around is fairly easy, although if you're visiting for the first time, we do recommend doing a bit more research on the area your retreat is located in.
As most international flights land directly in the capital at the Athens airport, you'll likely make use of the local transport systems which include buses, boats and ferries.
On the mainland in Greece, solo travellers can hop from one city to the next on the trusty green community buses.
Bear in mind though that you may run into a language barrier when travelling like a local.
Ferries and boat trips are an ideal way to travel between islands with flights available for destinations that are off-the-beaten-track or a distance away.
